Interactyx, developer of interactive economics
e-learning tool LiveEcon, narrowly missed out on the Grampian Awards for
Business Enterprise New Start prize last night. The Aboyne-based company
is an independent provider of tools to aid learning in the higher
education sector and was selected as a finalist alongside Red Island
Limited, who went on to win the award, at the impressive ceremony held at
the Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen.
LiveEcon, Interactyx’s first product, is
designed to help university students get to grips with economic analysis
and has already been adopted by 34 universities, from the University of Aberdeen
to Melbourne Business School
in Australia.
LiveEcon presents economics, in a visual, interactive way - students are
guided through moving tutorials covering all the main issues of economic
theory, before testing their understanding through interactive
question-and-answer sessions.
Charles Jordan, Chairman and
founder of Interactyx is delighted that the company was selected as a finalist.
“Being shortlisted is a measure of how far we’ve come and we
are immensely proud of what we have achieved in such a short time,”
he explains. “The business has gone from strength to strength since
we started trading in 2006, but the hard work is far from over and we
have some ambitious plans for the coming years”.
Interactyx continue to receive much positive
feedback from the Universities that have already adopted LiveEcon and
they have more lined up who are keen to take the tool on board. The huge
success of LiveEcon has inspired them to develop a new product,
LiveAccounts, a similar product for accountancy students and lecturers,
which they plan to launch later this year.
Chris Travis, Chief Executive of Enterprise North
East Trust, who was one of the judges of the awards said, “Judging
the awards is no mean feat because the calibre of entries increases year
on year. It’s gratifying to see so many new businesses from outwith
the city reaching the finals of the Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise
and the coveted Enterprise awards are recognition of the mark the
companies make on the local economy.”
The finalists for the New Start Awards are judged on
criteria that include their initial business plan and whether they are
delivering on it; their business vision; and their ability to focus on
customer needs through effective marketing strategy. The awards are
organized by Enterprise Trust North East (ENET)
and sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland and Scottish
Enterprise Grampian.
