LiveEcon, a new interactive learning package for economics undergraduates, has been launched today.
The first volume to go on sale, Macroeconomics Principles, will help first year economics students by reinforcing what they have learnt in lectures and testing their understanding in a totally new way.
Each chapter of LiveEcon has three sections:
The tutorial is a flash movie accompanied by text, which allows students to watch changes in the graphs and tables while reading the text which applies to each step. The combination of text and graphics is designed to make the topic easier to remember.
The “U-Drive-It!” is a completely interactive model with scroll bars which control all the economic assumptions. Students can change any of these and watch what happens to the model. They can see the graphs and data tables moving in real time in response to their decisions.
A quiz gives them the opportunity to test how much they have understood, while letting them find the answers using the interactive model.
Charles Jordan, CEO of the Enterprise Library said, “The launch of LiveEcon is a momentous day in the history of economics tuition. Students now have the means to learn macroeconomics faster, more thoroughly and in a way that suits their learning style. LiveEcon has taken interactive learning to a new level.”
LiveEcon’s authors include Chris Taylor, former Head of Economics and Chief Adviser at the Bank of England, Dr Jochen Runde, Reader in Economics at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge and Dr W David McCausland, Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Aberdeen.
